Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) has released a digital film marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, underscoring its position that disability inclusion is a necessity rather than an option. The film features employees with disabilities from GCPL’s accessible greenfield manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and highlights their contribution, capability and everyday work experiences.
The film showcases ISL-based communication, accessible workstations and mixed-ability teams, reflecting how GCPL integrates equity into its factory environments. Managing Director and CEO Sudhir Sitapati said GCPL has increased PwD employment and is now extending its efforts externally through consumer panels involving PwD and collaborations with disability-focused organisations. He added that people with disabilities constitute a significant consumer group and companies must design products keeping them in mind.
GCPL’s Global Head – HR, Vaibhav Ram, said disability inclusion remains far below potential in India and GCPL continues to expand representation, with PwDs currently forming around 1% of its permanent workforce. He said the digital film reinforces GCPL’s commitment to practical, on-ground inclusion and cited GCPL’s partnership with Atypical Advantage and Integrative Solutions for the ‘Work That Includes’ Toolkit, designed to guide other organisations on their inclusion journeys.
The film also aligns with GCPL’s wider inclusion work involving women, LGBTQIA+ communities and other underrepresented groups. GCPL’s manufacturing units in Malanpur and Chengalpattu have become benchmarks for accessible industrial environments through job mapping, infrastructure upgrades, ISL resources and technical training. The company said inclusion is an ongoing process that continues through workplace design, skilling, product development and community initiatives.
