Larsen & Toubro wins ₹25,000 crore contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project

Construction engineering company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won the bid and contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.

Construction engineering company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won the bid and contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.

Mega industry players, including Tata Projects, JMC Projects and NCC also evinced their interest in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail (MAHSR) but L&T emerged as the lowest bidder with ₹24,985 crore winning the race. The line of the bullet train project will be 237.1 km long beating the two other bids led by Tata Projects and Afcons Infrastructure Ltd.

The corridor for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is being built at a cost of ₹1.08 lakh crore with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) had earlier said that the project’s execution has slowed down because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The NHSRCL invited bids for the MAHSR bullet train project on March 15, 2019. After the technical bids on September 23, only three bidders qualified. Tata Projects Ltd, J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd and NCC Ltd formed a consortium and JV and Afcons Infrastructure Ltd along with Ircon International Ltd and JMC Projects India Ltd JV.

What does the whole contract include?

From design to construction of civil works along with building works including testing and commissioning on design-build for double line high-speed railway, involving viaducts, bridges, maintenance depots, tunnel, stations etc.
