Former OLX Autos CEO joins Prosus to head EdTech investments

Prosus will be splitting edtech and food delivery as two different segments with dedicated leadership teams. Thakar will be the CEO of edtech for Prosus, while Roger Rabalais, currently CFO Food and COO B2C, will take on the role of CEO food delivery

As part of an internal reorganisation, Prosus, a leading startup investor in India, has chosen Gautam Thakar, the former CEO of OLX Autos, to oversee its investments in the edtech sector. The Netherlands-based business has now divided food delivery and edtech into separate areas.

The Netherlands-based investors informed its workers in an internal memo this week that Roger Rabalais, who is now CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Food and COO (Chief Operating Officer) B2C (business-to-consumer), will take on the role of CEO food delivery. Thakar will be the CEO of edtech for Prosus. The new structure will take effect on September 1.

“These segments began as early-stage investments that have been diligently grown into world-class portfolios. These segments have continued to scale and grow in recent years, achieving double-digit revenue growth again in the last year. We believe Roger and Gautam are the right leaders to take them to their next stage of growth.” Prosus said in the memo.

Rabalais and Thakar will answer directly to Prosus CEO Bob van Dijk.

Larry Illg, who has been the combined division’s CEO since its founding (food delivery and edtech) will stand down but “will support the transition in an advisory capacity over the coming months, as well as continuing with existing board work,” Prosus said.
