Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) has commissioned a 150 kW solar rooftop plant at its head office in , marking a significant move towards sustainable energy and operational efficiency. The plant, part of the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar Yojana, was inaugurated by Managing Director & CEO, .

The solar plant is expected to generate approximately 750 units of clean energy daily, translating to around 22,500 units monthly and about 2.7 lakh units annually. This energy production is anticipated to save nearly ₹2.5 lakh per month, amounting to approximately ₹30 lakh annually, significantly reducing DCIL’s reliance on conventional power sources.

Environmentally, the project is set to avoid approximately 220-240 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which is equivalent to planting over 10,000 trees or removing nearly 50 passenger vehicles from the roads each year. This underscores the project’s positive environmental impact.

The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways’ guidelines, with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited as the implementation partner. The project was executed in record time by Ledure Lightings Limited, showcasing effective coordination among stakeholders.

The solar plant was initially inaugurated by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, , on March 29, 2026, during DCIL’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. Captain S. Divakar highlighted that the solar plant’s commissioning reflects DCIL’s forward-looking vision and alignment with national renewable energy priorities, delivering tangible financial and environmental benefits.

DCIL plans to continue pursuing similar initiatives as part of its broader strategy to promote sustainability, enhance energy efficiency, and contribute to a cleaner and greener future.
