United Breweries Limited has announced the closure of its brewery unit in Ludhiana, Punjab, effective June 30, 2026, according to an exchange filing made on Monday.
The company said the brewery unit located at C/60, Focal Point, Ludhiana, will cease operations as part of its operational restructuring efforts in the state.
United Breweries also informed exchanges that it has entered into a long-term capacity lease agreement with a contract brewing unit to ensure uninterrupted beer supply across Punjab and neighbouring states, including Delhi.
The company stated that the new arrangement is expected to help meet future demand more efficiently and sustainably through enhanced operational capabilities within Punjab. It also clarified that the closure of the Ludhiana brewery will not impact its business performance in the state.
In the filing, United Breweries reiterated its commitment to Punjab, its consumers, and local communities. The company added that it would take all necessary and responsible steps to support employees and workmen affected during the transition process.
The closure has been intimated to the Excise Department of Punjab and disclosed to stock exchanges in the interest of transparency.
United Breweries, part of the Heineken group, is among India’s largest beer manufacturers and markets popular brands including Kingfisher. The company operates multiple breweries and contract manufacturing facilities across the country to cater to regional demand and improve supply-chain efficiencies.
The move comes at a time when beverage companies are increasingly focusing on asset-light manufacturing models, operational optimisation, and regional production partnerships to improve efficiency and reduce logistics costs.
