The Tata Group has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to set up the Tata IISc Medical School on IISc’s Bengaluru campus. Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Tata Group has committed Rs 500 crore to fund the development of this centre of excellence.

The medical school aims to pioneer a unique model of clinical research and education by integrating basic science, engineering, and clinical practice. It will focus on various medical specialities, including oncology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, diabetes, infectious diseases, and public health.

The school will offer integrated MD-PhD and other dual-degree programmes to develop physician-scientists and medical technologists. Students will undergo training across the medical school and IISc’s science and engineering labs, fostering a blend of advanced clinical practice and scientific research. Additionally, the institution will collaborate with leading global medical institutions to provide students with international expertise and exposure.

“Tata IISc Medical School will create a highly qualified cadre of physician-scientists trained in modern medicine, enabling quality healthcare and positioning India at the forefront of the global healthcare revolution,” said N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons.

IISc director, Prof. G Rangarajan, expressed gratitude for the Tata Group’s generous contribution, emphasizing the school’s potential to create affordable healthcare solutions and extend the century-old legacy of Tata and IISc in science and innovation.
