Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has announced the completion of five Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs) for Kakinada-based San Maritime India Pvt. Ltd., marking a significant step in strengthening India’s offshore and shipbuilding ecosystem. The vessels will be completed at SDHI’s state-of-the-art shipyard in Pipavav under IR Class certification and deployed to meet growing offshore industry demand.
The project begins with the docking of the vessels at SDHI’s Pipavav facility, signalling operational momentum under the company’s new leadership. Once completed, the five OSVs are expected to enhance Indian-flag tonnage while reinforcing the country’s offshore logistics and support capabilities.
The hulls of these vessels were originally part of the asset acquisition plan of Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited (RNEL) through the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) process. Subsequently, the hulls were acquired by San Maritime from SDHI. Although construction had commenced under the previous management regime, the revived shipyard will now execute the final stages of construction and delivery, demonstrating renewed execution strength.
San Maritime India Pvt. Ltd., headquartered in Kakinada, has initiated the docking process at the Pipavav yard to ensure timely completion under Indian Register of Shipping (IR) Class standards. The move is aligned with rising demand for offshore support vessels, particularly in oil and gas exploration, offshore infrastructure, and marine logistics.
Located on India’s west coast in Gujarat, SDHI’s Pipavav shipyard is among the most advanced maritime infrastructure facilities in the country. The yard features the nation’s largest dry dock measuring 662 metres by 65 metres, a wet basin of 340 metres by 60 metres, and a 1.2-kilometre dedicated waterfront for berthing, docking, and vessel launching operations. These capabilities position SDHI as a key player in large-scale shipbuilding and offshore vessel completion.
