Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), India’s largest shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a prestigious defence export order from the Government of Oman. Under this contract, SDHI will design and deliver a state-of-the-art naval training ship for the Royal Navy of Oman, marking a major boost for India’s defence exports and indigenous shipbuilding capabilities. The vessel is scheduled for delivery within 18 months.
This landmark order highlights India’s growing stature as a global maritime and defence manufacturing hub. It also reinforces the strong bilateral relationship and maritime cooperation between India and Oman, reflecting increasing international confidence in Indian-built naval platforms.
The advanced training vessel will measure 104.25 metres in length, with a beam of 13.88 metres and a displacement of up to 3,500 tonnes. Designed to support modern naval training requirements, the ship will feature fully equipped classrooms, training offices, and comfortable accommodation facilities. An onboard auditorium will provide a world-class learning environment at sea, capable of training up to 70 officer cadets simultaneously.
In line with contemporary naval standards, the vessel will be fitted with a state-of-the-art navigation system, an advanced communications suite, and the capability to conduct helicopter operations. These features will enable comprehensive maritime training while supporting operational readiness for the Royal Navy of Oman.
Commenting on the development, Rear Admiral V.K. Saxena (Retd.), CEO of Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited, stated that the contract is a strong endorsement of SDHI’s advanced technical expertise and world-class shipbuilding capabilities. He noted that earning the confidence of the Royal Navy of Oman underscores the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality, innovative, and reliable vessels that meet global benchmarks.
