RVNL wins Rs 143 crore contract from Southern Railway for electric traction system upgrade

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has secured a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from Southern Railway for a major infrastructure upgrade project aimed at boosting freight capacity.

The project involves upgrading the electric traction system from 1×25 kV to 2×25 kV on key railway sections of the Salem division. Specifically, the upgrade will cover the Salem Junction (SA) to Podanur Junction (PTJ) and Irugur (IGU) to Coimbatore Junction (CBE) to Podanur Junction (PTJ) stretch. This enhancement is crucial for supporting a 3,000 metric tonne (MT) loading target in the region.
