NTPC Green Energy forms joint venture with Andhra Pradesh government for renewable energy projects

The joint venture, which was officially incorporated on February 6, 2025, will see both companies holding equal stakes, with NGEL contributing 50% of the equity shares.

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has announced the incorporation of a joint venture company named “AP NGEL Harit Amrit Limited.” The new entity, formed in collaboration with the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), is focused on driving renewable energy initiatives in India.

The joint venture, which was officially incorporated on February 6, 2025, will see both companies holding equal stakes, with NGEL contributing 50% of the equity shares. The aim of the company is to undertake significant renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid energy developments, with a targeted capacity of up to 25 GW. Additionally, AP NGEL Harit Amrit Ltd. will focus on the production of green hydrogen, targeting a capacity of 0.5 MMTPA, and exploring green ammonia and green methanol production.

This joint venture also plans to develop pump hydro projects, with a capacity of up to 10 GW, in identified locations within the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The formation of the joint venture has received prior approval from the Ministry of Power (MOP), Government of India, along with the necessary clearances from DIPAM and NITI Aayog. NGEL’s initial subscription involved the purchase of 50,000 equity shares at a face value of ₹10 each.

This venture marks a significant step in the renewable energy sector, highlighting NTPC’s commitment to expanding its footprint in sustainable energy production. It is expected to contribute significantly to India’s clean energy targets and bolster the development of green technologies across the country.
