Ministry of Defence signs Rs 26,000 crore contract with HAL for 240 AL-31FP aero engines

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed a deal worth over Rs 26,000 crore for 240 AL-31FP Aero Engines for Su-30MKI aircraft, which is a significant boost to Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

On September 09, 2024, in New Delhi, the contract was signed by the senior officials of MoD and HAL in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhar.

In the exchange filing, the company shared, “We wish to inform that, consequent upon approval of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), the Ministry of Defence has signed a Contract today with the Company for supply of 240 aero-engines (AL-31FP) for Su-30 MKI aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF), at a cost of over Rs. 26,000 Crore.”

These aeroengines, which are anticipated to be manufactured by HAL’s Koraput Division, would likely fulfil the Indian Air Force’s requirement to maintain the Su-30 fleet’s operational capability for the nation’s defence. HAL would supply 30 aero-engines per year according to the contractual delivery schedule. The delivery of all 240 engines will be completed during the next eight years.
