Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has announced a ₹2 per kilogram increase in the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Mumbai and its surrounding areas, effective immediately. This adjustment raises the CNG price from ₹75 to ₹77 per kilogram.
The price hike is attributed to escalating input costs, including the procurement of natural gas and operational expenses. MGL has previously adjusted CNG prices in response to similar cost pressures. In July 2024, the company increased CNG prices by ₹1.50 per kilogram, bringing the rate to ₹75 per kilogram at that time.
MGL’s decision aligns with broader industry trends, as city gas distribution companies across India have been revising prices to manage rising input costs. For instance, in June 2024, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) raised CNG prices in Delhi by ₹1 per kilogram, setting the new price at ₹75.09 per kilogram.
Despite the increase, CNG remains a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels. MGL continues to emphasize its commitment to providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions to its customers in Mumbai and neighboring regions.
