Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has announced the appointment of Cmde Shailesh Bhalachandra Jamgaonkar, IN (Retd.), as the new Director (Submarine & Heavy Engineering), effective March 25, 2025. His tenure will continue until April 30, 2027, or until further orders.
Cmde Jamgaonkar replaces Cdr. Vasudev Puranik, IN (Retd.), who held the additional charge of this position. The appointment follows approval from the Ministry of Defence, as per letter F.No.4/1(1)/2023/D(NS) dated March 24, 2025.
About Cmde Shailesh Bhalachandra Jamgaonkar
Cmde Jamgaonkar, a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidyalaya, Gujarat, has over 29 years of experience in the Indian Navy’s Submarine Arm. He holds a Post Graduate degree in Nuclear Technology from BARC, Mumbai.
Joining MDL in September 2023 as Executive Director (Technical E.Y.), he played a key role in projects such as P75 Additional Submarines, Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) Plug installation on Scorpene Submarines, and Indigenization of Submarine Equipment.
This appointment strengthens MDL’s leadership in submarine and heavy engineering projects, reinforcing its commitment to India’s defense sector. Cmde Jamgaonkar’s extensive expertise is expected to drive innovation and growth in naval shipbuilding.
