KPI Green Energy accelerates progress on 240 MW Khavda solar project; nearing completion ahead of schedule

KPI Green Energy Limited has provided a significant update on the progress of its 240 MW DC Khavda GUVNL Independent Power Producer (IPP) Solar Project, its largest project to date. The project, awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL), is now 90% complete in construction, excluding module installation. The company is on track to surpass its scheduled commercial operation date (SCOD) set between May and November 2025, marking a major milestone in India’s renewable energy mission.

  • Capacity Expansion: The project will boost KPI’s IPP portfolio from 171 MWp to 411 MWp.
  • Energy Generation: Expected to generate 47.3 crore kWh annually, electrifying approximately 1.3 lakh households.

    • Save 3.4 lakh metric tonnes of CO2 annually.
    • Equivalent to planting 11,000 trees every year.
  • Employment Creation: Over 1,000 green jobs generated.

Technological Advancements:

  1. IoT-powered Robotic Cleaning:
    • 550 robots capable of cleaning 1 MW in under 3 hours, ensuring 98% cleaning efficiency.
    • Significant water conservation over the project’s lifecycle.
  2. Network Operations Center (NOC):
    • Real-time monitoring and centralized control to enhance reliability.
  3. SCADA Integration: Advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for seamless data management.
  4. Corrosion Protection: Enhanced coating on major equipment for durability.
  5. Adaptable Design: Custom foundation and structure tailored to Khavda’s unique soil strata.

Project Status as of January 2025:

  • Financial Closure: 100% completed.
  • Equipment Ordering: Fully completed.
  • Construction Progress: 90% completed.
  • Equipment Delivery: 60% delivered, remaining scheduled on time.
  • Staff Facilities: Fully operational.

Strategic Importance of Khavda:

The Khavda project, located in a region with over 300 sunny days annually and a solar irradiation rate of 2,060 kWh/m², represents an ideal setting for large-scale solar installations.
