JSW Energy signs PPA for 1,600 MW thermal power project in Salboni, receives CoD for Utkal Unit-2

JSW Energy Limited has achieved two significant milestones in its commitment to enhancing India’s energy security.

The company has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for a 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW) super/ultra supercritical thermal power plant in Salboni, West Bengal.

Additionally, JSW Energy has received the Commercial Operation Date (CoD) certificate for Unit-2 of its Utkal Thermal Power Plant (2 x 350 MW).

1,600 MW Greenfield Thermal Power Project – Salboni

The upcoming 1,600 MW thermal power plant in Salboni will be commissioned within five years and will supply power exclusively to WBSEDCL for 25 years. This project, fueled by domestic coal allocated under the SHAKTI B (iv) policy, will play a key role in meeting West Bengal’s rising power demand with efficient and sustainable energy solutions.

Utkal Thermal Power Plant – Unit 2 Now Operational

The commissioning of Unit-2 at Utkal Thermal Power Plant strengthens the nation’s base load capacity just in time for the high-demand season. This plant, which utilizes domestic coal, sells power through the merchant market and bilateral contracts, reinforcing JSW Energy’s commitment to reliable and efficient power generation.
