Hyundai unveils IONIQ 9, a three-row electric SUV with advanced tech and sustainability features

Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the IONIQ 9, a three-row electric SUV launched on November 20, 2024, at the Goldstein House in Los Angeles. The vehicle represents a significant milestone in Hyundai’s electrification strategy, targeting a full lineup of 23 EV models by 2030.

The IONIQ 9 features a powerful 110.3 kWh battery with multiple performance configurations. The Long-Range RWD model offers a 620 km range and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.4 seconds. The Performance AWD variant delivers a more dynamic experience, reaching 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.

Interior innovation stands out as a key highlight of the IONIQ 9. The SUV offers an expansive cabin with 1,899 mm of headroom and 2,050 mm of legroom. Unique features include Relaxation Seats with a Dynamic Body Care system, Swiveling Seats, and a slidable Universal Island 2.0 console.

Sustainability is a core focus of the design. Hyundai has incorporated eco-friendly materials including Recycled PET Fabric, Eco Process Leather, and paint made from recycled tire waste. The exterior showcases an ‘Aerosthetic’ design with a low drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd and parametric pixel lighting.

Technological capabilities are extensive, featuring Hyundai AI Assistant, Features on Demand digital upgrades, and a comprehensive suite of safety technologies. The vehicle includes a UV-C sterilization system, 100W high-output USB-C ports, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.

Advanced driver assistance systems include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist. The vehicle comes equipped with 10 airbags and a reinforced body structure for enhanced safety.

The IONIQ 9 will first launch in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, with subsequent rollouts planned for Europe and other markets. Pricing and complete specifications will be revealed closer to the market launch.

Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, described the IONIQ 9 as embodying the company’s unwavering commitment to electrification. The vehicle builds on the success of previous IONIQ models, which won multiple World Car of the Year Awards in 2022 and 2023.

With its combination of spacious design, advanced technology, and sustainable features, the Hyundai IONIQ 9 represents a significant step forward in electric vehicle innovation, challenging competitors in the rapidly evolving EV market.
