Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited has announced that it has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with NYK India Private Limited to strengthen the port’s Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) infrastructure. The collaboration aims to support India’s rising vehicle exports and the evolving needs of automotive logistics, including the growing movement of electric vehicles.

Under this proposed partnership, the two companies plan to develop specialised RoRo facilities at Pipavav Port capable of handling up to 500,000 cars per year. The initiative focuses on creating an efficient ecosystem that reduces dwell time and improves the coordination between vessels and rail movement. With rail volumes increasing at Pipavav Port, the upgrade is designed to ensure smoother cargo flow and better utilisation of multimodal connectivity.

The MoU reflects the port’s intent to expand capacity and adapt to the changing requirements of the automotive supply chain. By enhancing infrastructure and improving turnaround efficiency, Gujarat Pipavav Port and NYK aim to support long-term growth in India’s vehicle export segment while incorporating more sustainable and streamlined logistics practices.
