GRSE signs contract for 7th & 8th Multi-Purpose Vessels with Carsten Rehder

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has signed a contract with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, for the construction and delivery of the 7th and 8th Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs) of 7,500 DWT. The agreement was signed on March 24, 2025, in Hamburg, Germany, under the ‘Option Agreement’ for four additional MPVs.

With this deal, GRSE will build a total of eight vessels at an estimated order value of $108 million. Each MPV will measure 120 meters in length, 17 meters in width, and have a maximum draft of 6.75 meters. The vessels are designed to carry 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo, including bulk, general, and project cargoes, with container transportation on hatch covers. A key highlight of these vessels is their capability to transport large windmill blades on deck, catering to the growing renewable energy sector.

The agreement was signed between Cdr Prasenjit Roy, IN (Retd), Deputy GM (Commercial Shipbuilding), GRSE, and Mr. Thomas Rehder, Managing Director, Carsten Rehder, in the presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Chairman & MD, GRSE, and other senior officials.
