GRSE secures Rs 226 crore contract to design and build hybrid electric ferries for West Bengal

GRSE has recently informed exchanges that the company has secured a contract of ₹226.18 crore (excluding GST) with West Bengal’s Transport Department to design, manufacture and maintain 13 hybrid electric ferries. This includes six twin-deck ferries (₹126.41 crore) and seven single-deck ferries (₹99.77 crore).

The vessels will operate on the River Hooghly, enhancing the state’s sustainable transport options. The deal, finalized on November 19, 2024, includes both single and twin-deck ferries that will be deployed by the West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (WBTIDCL).

Key Details of the Hybrid Ferries:

  • Six twin-deck ferries: 200-passenger capacity, air-conditioned main deck, 30 meters in length, 12 knots maximum speed, costing ₹126.41 crore.
  • Seven single-deck ferries: 100-passenger capacity, 25 meters in length, 9 knots maximum speed, costing ₹99.77 crore.
