Gensol Engineering and Matrix Gas & Renewables secure India’s first green hydrogen valley project in Pune

Gensol Engineering Limited and Matrix Gas & Renewables Ltd. have been awarded the contract to set up India’s first Green Hydrogen Valley in Pune, Maharashtra. The project will be built on a Build Own and Operate (BOO) basis and will supply green hydrogen to the specialty chemical sector under a 20-year offtake agreement.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Government of India to promote hydrogen valleys through the Department of Science & Technology (DST). This project marks a significant step in the development of green hydrogen infrastructure in India.

The production plant will be established in the Kurkumbh region of Pune, with support from the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL). Gensol and Matrix were selected for this project through a competitive tender process, having demonstrated both technical and commercial expertise. The companies will utilize electrolysis technology to generate green hydrogen.

Anmol Jaggi, Managing Director of Gensol Engineering Ltd., emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “We are going to supply green hydrogen on a round-the-clock basis to the specialty chemical sector in Pune, contributing to the development of India’s green hydrogen economy.”

Chirag Kotecha, Whole-time Director at Matrix Gas & Renewables Ltd., added, “This project aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and offers an opportunity to establish research and development facilities for green hydrogen and its applications.”

Both Gensol and Matrix are expected to collaborate further in areas such as green steel and green ammonia production, leveraging their combined expertise in renewable energy and green hydrogen technology.
