GAIL and CONCOR sign MoU to explore LNG adoption in logistics sector

GAIL (India) Ltd. and Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the adoption of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as an alternative fuel for the logistics sector. The agreement was formalized on April 23 in New Delhi in the presence of Shri Sanjay Kumar, Director (Marketing), GAIL; Shri Sanjay Swarup, CMD, CONCOR; and senior officers from both companies.

Under this MoU, both organizations will assess the feasibility of deploying LNG-powered vehicles within CONCOR’s logistics fleet. The initiative aims to leverage LNG’s cost-efficiency and environmental benefits, offering a cleaner substitute to diesel fuel, which could lead to lower emissions and reduced operational costs.

Shri Sanjay Kumar noted that GAIL, with the largest LNG portfolio in India, is well-positioned to support this transition, adding that LNG as a transport fuel could be a game-changer for the logistics industry. He emphasized GAIL’s global LNG contracts and its role as a reliable supplier in this emerging space.

Shri Sanjay Swarup highlighted CONCOR’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, stating that the company has already made substantial progress by setting up an LNG station at MMLP Khatuwas and deploying a fleet of 130 LNG trailers, significantly cutting down its carbon footprint.

This collaboration marks a strategic step towards promoting greener fuel adoption in India’s logistics sector, aligned with the country’s broader goals of sustainability and energy efficiency.
