
Deccan Gold Mines Limited has shared an update on the public consultation process for its Jonnagiri Gold Project, conducted on February 18, 2025, in Jonnagiri, Andhra Pradesh. The consultation was part of the environmental clearance process for the project, managed by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board.
The event, presided over by the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) of Pathikonda, saw a large turnout from local stakeholders, including residents, public representatives, and media representatives. The consultation focused on gathering public opinions, with most attendees expressing strong support for the project. They also provided constructive suggestions, including:
- Prioritizing local employment opportunities at the Jonnagiri Gold Project.
- Ensuring health, safety, and security for employees.
- Handling toxic waste and other substances in an eco-friendly manner.
- Planting trees and conserving underground water resources.
- Undertaking CSR activities in education, healthcare, and providing drinking water to the local population.
Dr. Hanuma Prasad Modali, Managing Director of Geomysore Services (India) Private Limited, the associate company of Deccan Gold Mines, addressed the gathering. He thanked the stakeholders for their support and explained the CSR initiatives already implemented over the last 10 years. Dr. Modali emphasized the company’s commitment to providing employment opportunities, continuing socio-economic development initiatives, and transforming the Jonnagiri Gold Project into a model mine.
He also discussed future plans, including the establishment of Skill Development Centres and attention to the region’s education and healthcare needs. Dr. Modali concluded that the company is committed to making Jonnagiri a self-sustaining community, with the project paving the way for India’s first-ever private sector gold mine.
The company expressed optimism about receiving the environmental clearance for the plant component of the project and pledged to update stakeholders on further developments.
