Centum Electronics Limited has received a prestigious order from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the design and development of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar Systems for the Utility Helicopter–Maritime (UH-M) platform. The contract marks a significant milestone for the Bengaluru-based electronics system design and manufacturing company, reinforcing its growing role in India’s indigenous defence ecosystem.

The order relates to Phase-1 of the programme, which focuses on the design and development of AESA radar systems. Under this phase, Centum will deliver advanced radar solutions over the next two financial years. The purchase order value for Phase-1 stands at ₹66 crore, with a gross value of ₹78 crore inclusive of GST.

The AESA Radar System being developed for the UH-M platform is designed to detect, classify and track multiple maritime targets simultaneously. This capability is expected to significantly enhance the helicopter’s surveillance, reconnaissance and operational effectiveness in maritime environments. AESA technology is considered a critical advancement in modern radar systems, offering improved target tracking, faster response times and enhanced reliability compared to conventional radar technologies.

Upon successful completion of Phase-1, the programme is expected to progress to Phase-2. The second phase envisages serial production and supply of AESA radar systems over a five-year period, subject to contractual terms and programme requirements. The indicative value for Phase-2 is estimated at ₹500 crore, with a gross value of approximately ₹590 crore inclusive of GST.

The AESA radar systems programme presents a substantial long-term opportunity for Centum Electronics. It allows the company to demonstrate its end-to-end system-level design, development and manufacturing capabilities in advanced radar and mission-critical defence electronics. The order also strengthens Centum’s long-standing partnership with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, one of India’s leading aerospace and defence public sector enterprises.
