Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI) has started commercial production at its new cutting and grinding wheel manufacturing facility in Hosur, significantly increasing its annual capacity.
The new facility, which incorporates technology and production lines acquired from DRONCO GmbH, Germany, will double CUMI’s manufacturing capacity from 45 million to over 91 million wheels per annum. This expansion supports the company’s goal to meet growing demand in the fabrication, construction, and general engineering sectors. The facility features state-of-the-art technology, including SCADA-based process controls, automated press lines, and unmanned oven handling systems, enhancing product performance and cost competitiveness.
The Hosur plant, established with an investment of ₹83 crore, is expected to generate a turnover of ₹160 crore at peak capacity utilisation. The plant’s products will serve both domestic and international markets, catering to a wide range of industrial applications.
