Google has commenced construction on its significant AI hub in , , marking its largest investment in India’s digital infrastructure to date. This project, developed in collaboration with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel, aims to establish a gigawatt-scale AI ecosystem to power the ‘Viksit Bharat’ initiative.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, and Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The event underscored ‘s commitment to being a long-term partner in India’s economic and environmental resilience.

Adani Group’s Director, Jeet Adani, highlighted the infrastructure’s role in India’s AI development, noting the project’s nearly 1 GW capacity in a single location. This initiative is part of Google’s $15 billion investment plan over five years (2026-2030) to establish a comprehensive AI ecosystem in India, contributing to the government’s 2047 vision.

The AI hub will include three data centre campuses, with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel leading the construction. The project also involves the America-India Connect initiative for an expanded fibre-optic network and a clean energy strategy to support India’s goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

Google’s investment extends beyond infrastructure, focusing on local job training, community projects, and resource stewardship. Initiatives include water management, modernising maritime trades, empowering grassroots innovation, and supporting women-led enterprises. The Skills Trade and Readiness (STAR) program aims to prepare over 1,000 local individuals for roles in developing Visakhapatnam’s digital infrastructure.
