Asian markets: Nikkei falls 1.24% at close, declines for fifth straight day

The Nikkei 225 closed at 38,677.82 points, down 486.72 points or 1.24% at the end of the trading day. The index recorded its fifth consecutive daily loss, reflecting ongoing concerns in the market.

On a weekly basis, the Nikkei dropped 1.88%, while its year-to-date performance stands at -3.17%. Over the past six months, however, the index has gained 1.04%, and in the last year, it has risen 1.27%.

The decline follows global market uncertainties, with investors closely watching economic indicators and corporate earnings. Analysts noted that profit-taking and caution ahead of key economic data releases contributed to the downturn.
