Ukrainian forces suffer heavy losses in Kursk region as Russian defences hold

Russian forces reportedly thwarted Ukrainian counterattacks in two key areas of the Kursk region, near the localities of Kamyshevka and Lyubimovka.

Ukrainian troops have faced severe setbacks near the Russian border, losing over 300 soldiers and multiple armoured vehicles within 24 hours, according to the Russian Defence Ministry. The statement detailed that the losses included an infantry fighting vehicle, two armoured personnel carriers (APCs), six combat vehicles, and several artillery systems, including a US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launcher.

Russian forces reportedly thwarted Ukrainian counterattacks in two key areas of the Kursk region, near the localities of Kamyshevka and Lyubimovka. The Defence Ministry confirmed that Ukrainian casualties amounted to around 20 troops, with an armoured combat vehicle and two motor vehicles destroyed in the skirmishes. These areas have seen increased hostilities as Ukrainian forces attempted to advance towards Russian-held positions.

Three separate attempts to breach the Russian border in the Kursk region were also repelled by Russian troops near Novy Put and Medvezhye. Supported by army aviation and artillery fire, Russian forces managed to block the advances, resulting in additional Ukrainian losses, which included a mine-clearing vehicle, an armoured recovery vehicle, and several more armoured vehicles.

The situation along the Kursk border highlights the intensifying confrontations between Russian and Ukrainian forces as both sides continue to engage in territorial disputes. Despite Ukraine’s continued efforts, Russian forces have successfully maintained control of strategic points in the region.

Further updates on the conflict indicate that Ukrainian attempts to breach Russian defences have, so far, been unsuccessful. The losses suffered in the latest engagements reflect the ongoing toll of the conflict on both sides, with military assets and personnel being heavily depleted as the fighting continues.
