Turkey reaffirms role as Guarantor for two-state solution amid Gaza conflict

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized Turkey’s role as a guarantor for a two-state solution, warning that without immediate implementation, another Gaza war is inevitable, and conflicts will persist.

In a recent interview, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterated Turkey’s commitment to serving as a guarantor for a two-state solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict. Speaking to Sky News Arabia, Fidan lauded Qatar and Egypt’s efforts to mediate a cease-fire amid the ongoing violence in Gaza.

“Without immediate implementation of the two-state solution, a fourth Gaza war is inevitable,” Fidan cautioned. “We will be entangled in lingering conflicts,” he warned, underscoring the urgency of addressing the crisis.

Fidan’s comments come as the Gaza Strip faces intensified military operations. He expressed concern over the humanitarian impact and called for international action to halt the violence. He accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of having a “different agenda,” suggesting that a cease-fire does not align with Netanyahu’s political objectives.

Fidan remarked that “Netanyahu’s goals are incompatible with the peace process.” His remarks reflect Türkiye’s position that sustainable peace in the region can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.

The Turkish Foreign Minister praised the diplomatic endeavours of Qatar and Egypt, which have been actively seeking a cease-fire agreement. These nations have played crucial roles in previous negotiations, leveraging their influence to mediate between conflicting parties.

Fidan acknowledged that the efforts of Qatar and Egypt are praiseworthy and crucial for achieving peace. He emphasized that Turkey supports these initiatives and is ready to contribute to a long-term solution that addresses the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.

Beyond the Palestine-Israel conflict, Fidan addressed Turkey’s security concerns related to the PKK/YPG in Syria and Iraq. He described the PKK’s presence in Iraq as spreading “like cancer,” asserting that it has become a significant national security threat to Turkey’s neighbour.

He emphasized that Türkiye must address the PKK/YPG threat in Syria to restore stability. Fidan indicated that Turkey might assist in returning energy resources, currently controlled by the terrorist group, to the Syrian people. This move is seen as part of a broader strategy to undermine the PKK’s influence and restore sovereignty to affected regions.

Fidan’s interview highlights Türkiye’s proactive role in addressing regional conflicts and promoting stability. By positioning itself as a guarantor for a two-state solution, Turkey aims to play a pivotal role in resolving one of the most protracted conflicts in the Middle East.

As the Gaza conflict continues, Turkey’s diplomatic efforts and security policies remain critical. Fidan’s statements reinforce the need for an immediate and sustainable resolution to the Palestine-Israel conflict and highlight Turkey’s readiness to support peace and security in the broader Middle East.
