Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T), on Friday, announced about bagging a contract for up to Rs 2,500-crore for Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor project from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

L&T said in a regulatory filing,” The heavy civil infrastructure business of L&T Construction has secured a significant contract from two packages of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor.”

The exact amount of the contract was not provided by L&T, however, the infrastructure company said the orders fall under ‘significant’ category which ranges between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore as per its classification of contracts. It also added that the contract was secured through a consortium of L&T and IHI Infrastructure Systems (IIS) of Japan on January 25 by NHSRCL, the organisation responsible for executing the bullet train project.

The order is to procure and fabricate 28 steel bridges for crossing over railway lines, rivers, highways, road, and other structures.

The 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will operate at speed of 320 km per hour, passing through areas in Maharashtra, Gujarat, as well as Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The entire distance is expected to be covered in two-three hours and will cover 12 stations along the route. The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
