Top gainers

City Union Bank led the gains, rising 3.20% on BSE (₹266.25) and 3.25% on NSE (₹266.20), making it the single strongest performer across the sector in early trade. State Bank of India (SBI) advanced 2.05% to ₹1,102.50 on BSE and 2.28% to ₹1,104.90 on NSE. ICICI Bank gained 1.70% on BSE (₹1,370.45) and 1.69% on NSE (₹1,369.60). AU Small Finance Bank rose 1.13% (BSE: ₹1,002.00) and 1.29% (NSE: ₹1,003.40). J&K Bank gained 1.75% on BSE (₹133.50) and 1.44% on NSE (₹133.14).

Notable decliners

Suryoday Small Finance Bank dropped 1.91% on BSE (₹141.60). IDBI Bank fell 1.53% on BSE (₹73.92) and 1.65% on NSE (₹73.82). IDFC First Bank declined 1.49% to ₹67.50 on both exchanges. IndusInd Bank slipped 1.42% on BSE (₹841.05) and 1.55% on NSE (₹840.65). HDFC Bank declined 1.08% on BSE (₹791.30) and 0.94% on NSE (₹792.40). Equitas Small Finance Bank fell 1.51% on BSE (₹64.57) and 1.66% on NSE (₹64.51).

PSU banks: mixed picture

Among public sector banks, SBI bucked the trend with solid early gains. Canara Bank was flat at ₹142.35 (BSE, 0.00%). Bank of Baroda (−0.18%), Union Bank (−0.64%), UCO Bank (−0.97%), Punjab & Sind Bank (−0.83%), Central Bank (−0.61%), and PNB (−0.31%) all declined marginally on BSE in early trade.

Small finance banks under pressure

Small finance banks as a group showed broad weakness: Equitas (−1.51%), Suryoday (−1.91%), Ujjivan (−1.11%), and Utkarsh (−0.51%) all slipped on BSE, while AU Small Finance Bank was an exception with a gain of 1.13%.

Market indices context

The broader Nifty 50 was down 0.23% at 24,296.55 on NSE. The S&P BSE Sensex was down 0.14% at 78,386.28.
