Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has strengthened its position in India’s fast-growing clean energy sector after being declared the lowest (L1) bidder for a major solar project from Coal India Limited. The contract involves a turnkey EPC package for the development of an 875 MW (AC) grid-connected solar PV project in Bikaner.
The total contract value, including operations and maintenance (O&M) and taxes, stands at approximately ₹3,490 crore, making it one of the company’s largest wins in recent times.
Alongside this, the company has also secured an additional 50 MW AC solar project in Maharashtra from a leading private independent power producer (IPP). These back-to-back wins have pushed SWREL’s total EPC order inflow for FY26 beyond ₹10,062 crore, significantly surpassing its earlier guidance.
The latest order win marks a strategic milestone as it represents SWREL’s first project with Coal India, a company that is actively diversifying into renewable energy as part of India’s broader transition toward sustainable power.
Commenting on the achievement, Chandra Kishore Thakur, Global CEO of Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Group, highlighted the significance of the deal and the company’s growth trajectory. He stated that the company is pleased to partner with Coal India in its renewable journey and is closing FY26 on a strong note, with order inflows exceeding ₹10,000 crore—well above initial expectations.
The development comes at a time when India is accelerating its renewable energy capacity, with solar EPC players like SWREL playing a key role in executing large-scale projects across the country. The Bikaner project, in particular, is expected to contribute significantly to Rajasthan’s solar capacity, given the region’s high solar irradiation and expanding infrastructure.
