A tip‑off, a covert operation and a mass arrest have come together in the scandal unfolding at a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)‑linked BPO unit in Nashik, where a police probe has now yielded at least nine FIRs and multiple arrests over alleged sexual abuse, harassment and coercive religious practices. The investigation, which began in early 2026 after a family alerted the Nashik City Police about unusual changes in the lifestyle of a young Hindu woman employee, is being handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by assistant commissioner of police Sandeep Mitke and has already identified a pattern of misconduct said to span several years inside the 147‑person facility.

What set the operation apart was the use of undercover officers, including plain‑clothes constables deployed as housekeeping staff, who quietly observed interactions inside the building for several weeks before the first formal complaint could be registered. Data gathered during this surveillance, combined with the initial tip‑off, led to a March 2026 FIR at Deolali police station accusing one employee, Danish Shaikh, of rape and deceptive conduct, including allegedly concealing his marriage while promising marriage to the complainant. The probe quickly expanded as phone‑device scans of another accused, Tausif Attar, revealed images of a separate Hindu employee in Islamic attire, triggering fresh complaints and widening the SIT’s scrutiny of workplace conduct.

So far, seven individuals have been arrested, including several team leaders, senior staff and an assistant general manager from the HR department, who is being investigated for allegedly ignoring earlier complaints despite being part of the internal POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) mechanism. The case has also drawn in questions about financial and religious‑coercion tactics, with officials and sources indicating that some recruits were reportedly targeted when they were in financial distress, and subsequently pressured to alter religious practices. TCS has suspended the employees under investigation and stated that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement while conducting its own internal review of the Nashik unit’s compliance‑and‑grievance systems.
