Iran’s official news agency IRNA has reported that a loud explosion was heard in Zanjan province, located in northwest Iran, as the country faces intense joint US-Israel airstrikes that began on February 28, 2026.
The blast in Zanjan adds to a growing list of reported explosions across Iran, including major sites in Tehran, Tabriz, Qom, Isfahan, and other provinces.
This latest report comes amid widespread explosions across Iran, including multiple blasts in Tehran, where smoke plumes rose over the capital following strikes on regime targets like intelligence headquarters, defense ministry sites, and missile-related infrastructure. President Donald Trump described the US role as “major combat operations” to destroy Iran’s missile industry, annihilate its navy, neutralize terrorist proxies, and block nuclear weapon development.
Iran has retaliated with missile barrages toward Israel and attacks on US bases in the Gulf (Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain), prompting regional airspace closures and emergency alerts.
