2021 welcomes South Indian films into Bollywood as producers debut official Hindi remakes of their own projects. Among the producers making their debuts is the legend of the industry, Lyca Productions. In a fresh update, Pinkvilla reported Lyca Productions debuting a new project starring Abhishek Bachchan.
The 2.0 creators revealed casting Abhishek Bachchan for their upcoming film whose title, 65 Karats, has not been locked. However, the script for the film has been finalized. A spokesperson for Lyca Productions was quoted saying, “Lyca Productions has roped in Abhishek Bachchan as the male lead for their next. It’s a taut thriller that has been in the works for sometime now. When Abhishek was approached for the same, he loved the whole concept and idea behind the project. It’s going to be one of Abhishek’s biggest films till date as the makers plan to mount it on a huge scale. It’s tentatively titled 65 Karats, but that hasn’t been locked.”
The source further revealed that it’s been a while since the team thought about making a debut in Bollywood. “The team had been planning to make their foray into Hindi films for sometime, ever since Akshay Kumar & Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 released. They are looking at developing projects that cater to a pan-Indian audience,” he said. Currently, the team has two films on their line up, Indian 2 and Ponniyin Selvan, starring Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam.
When the team approached Abhishek Bachchan, he was thrilled about the concept behind the Bollywood venture. According to the report, this is project is expected to be one of the actor’s best films he worked on throughout his career. Right now, he has his film Ludo on the lineup for release. The shoot for 65 Karats will commence as soon as he wraps up the schedule for Bob Biswas. 65 Karats should hit the big screens at the end of next year.
