Bangladesh spinner Rishad Hossain provided the hosts with a much-needed breakthrough in the 1st T20I against West Indies at the MA Aziz Stadium, Chattogram, dismissing opener Alick Athanaze for 34 off 27 balls.
Athanaze, who had looked confident after surviving an early scare in Taskin Ahmed’s over, attempted an extravagant reverse sweep against Rishad. However, he misjudged the turn — the ball clipped his pad, ricocheted onto his body, and then rolled back to disturb the stumps.
The wicket broke the opening partnership at 59 runs in 8.2 overs, halting West Indies’ solid start after opting to bat first. Athanaze’s innings included four boundaries and one six, giving the visitors early momentum before his dismissal.
At that stage, West Indies were 59/1, with Brandon King batting on 21 off 23 and Shai Hope new at the crease.
