Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing has announced a recall of 393,838 vehicles across the United States after identifying a software defect that may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.

According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a software error in the multimedia system, which can cause the backup camera to fail. The agency warned that “a rearview image that does not display reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The recall covers several popular models, including:

  • 2022–2025 Toyota Tundra
  • 2022–2025 Toyota Tundra Hybrid
  • 2023–2025 Toyota Sequoia Hybrid

To resolve the issue, Toyota dealers will update the multimedia display software free of charge. The company has confirmed that owner notifications will be sent by November 16, 2025, detailing the recall process and instructions for scheduling the fix.

While Toyota has not reported any accidents or injuries linked to the malfunction, the recall reflects the company’s ongoing emphasis on safety compliance and quality assurance.

The NHTSA continues to monitor the recall campaign to ensure timely repairs and owner awareness.
