Bangladesh’s top order continued to crumble against Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup 2025 Group B clash at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, slipping to 11/3 inside five overs. Despite Sri Lanka’s fiery start, fielding lapses have kept Bangladesh alive, with two dropped catches and now another close escape for skipper Litton Das.

Nuwan Thushara struck first by bowling Tanzid Hasan for a six-ball duck, before Dushmantha Chameera removed Parvez Hossain Emon in the very next over with a thick edge to Kusal Mendis. Towhid Hridoy, who was earlier dropped by Charith Asalanka, was eventually run out by a brilliant direct hit from Kamil Mishara for 8(9).

But Sri Lanka’s sharp bowling hasn’t been matched by their fielding. After Asalanka’s drop at extra cover and another missed chance in the deep, Litton Das had a narrow escape yet again. Facing Dasun Shanaka, Litton poked away from his body and got a thick edge that flew in the air towards Matheesha Pathirana. Fortunately for Bangladesh, the ball dropped just short of the fielder, giving Litton another life.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh were 11/3 after 5 overs, with Litton Das (captain) and Mahedi Hasan at the crease. The Lankans still hold the upper hand with their relentless pace attack, but the missed opportunities could allow Bangladesh’s middle order to stage a fightback.
