Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in a massive landslide that struck the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple route in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district. According to official reports, more than 30 devotees lost their lives after heavy rains triggered the deadly landslide on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Inderprastha Bhojnalaya near Adhkwar, along the pilgrimage path.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “The loss of lives due to a landslide on the route to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple is saddening. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The administration is assisting all those affected. My prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being.”

The landslide struck roughly midway through the 12-kilometre trek from Katra to the hilltop shrine. Authorities had already halted the Himkoti trail in the morning due to bad weather, but devotees continued using the traditional route until 1:30 p.m., when movement was fully suspended amid safety concerns.
