Indian equity markets ended lower on August 22, with benchmark indices slipping sharply. The Nifty 50 closed at 24,870.10, down 213.65 points or 0.85%, while the Sensex shed 693.86 points or 0.85% to end the session at 81,306.85. Despite the overall weakness, a few heavyweight stocks managed to gain.

Top Gainers
Mahindra & Mahindra rose 0.8% to close at ₹3,403, emerging as the biggest gainer on the Nifty. Maruti Suzuki advanced 0.6% to ₹14,370, while Bharat Electronics inched up 0.2% to ₹374.9. Bharti Airtel also added 0.2% to end at ₹1,933, and Titan closed marginally higher by 0.1% at ₹3,618.9.

Top Losers
On the downside, Grasim Industries was the worst performer, slipping 2.6% to ₹2,805. Asian Paints declined 2.5% to ₹2,503.2, while Adani Enterprises fell 2.3% to ₹2,323.8. UltraTech Cement dropped 2.0% to ₹12,609, and Hero MotoCorp also lost 2.0% to ₹4,994.7.
