As torrential rains battered Mumbai on Tuesday, flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were hit, with at least eight flights diverted to nearby airports due to poor visibility and waterlogging on runways, according to sources.

Among the diversions, IndiGo’s Kolkata–Mumbai flight (6E 5194), Guwahati–Mumbai (6E 6224) and Air India’s Kolkata–Mumbai flight (AI 676) were diverted to Ahmedabad, while others such as Delhi–Mumbai (6E 6814), Dubai–Mumbai (SG 014), Vadodara–Mumbai (6E 6289) and Bhubaneswar–Surat (6E 2189) were rerouted to Surat. Additionally, Udaipur–Mumbai (6E 5185) was diverted to Hyderabad.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall with wind speeds up to 55 kmph. Operations are expected to remain affected through the day if rain intensity continues.
