India’s largest fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), reported its financial results for the June quarter on Wednesday, July 31. The company posted a net profit of ₹2,732 crore, marking a 7.7% year-on-year (YoY) growth, while revenue rose 3.9% YoY to ₹15,931 crore.
The performance comes as sentiment improves across the consumer goods sector, with many analysts suggesting the worst may be over in terms of rural slowdown and margin pressure.
EBITDA for the quarter came in at ₹3,558 crore, registering a decline of 1.3% from the same quarter last year. EBITDA margins stood at 22.3%, down 120 basis points from the 23.5% margin posted in the year-ago period. The company attributed the pressure to moderating gross margins, which it had earlier flagged.
During its March quarter earnings call, HUL had indicated that growth in the first half of FY26 would likely be stronger than the second half of FY25, and that EBITDA margins would stay in the 22%–23% range over the next few quarters.
One of the most watched metrics for HUL, volume growth, is expected to remain modest in the 3%–4% range. The company continues to face a challenging demand environment, particularly in rural areas, although early signs of recovery are visible.
Looking ahead, investors will be keenly watching management commentary on demand trends, plans under the new leadership, and steps aimed at reviving volume growth.
Notably, Priya Nair is set to take over as the new Managing Director and CEO, following the completion of incumbent Rohit Jawa’s term, marking a significant leadership transition at the FMCG giant.
