In a major development ahead of the fifth and final Test of India’s tour of England, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out due to a fracture in his right foot sustained during the fourth Test in Manchester. The BCCI confirmed that the injury occurred while Pant was attempting a reverse sweep against England pacer Chris Woakes on Day 1. He retired hurt on 37, but later returned to complete a gritty half-century.
Following medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has advised rest, and Pant will continue to be monitored. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Narayan Jagadeesan as his replacement for the fifth Test starting July 31, 2025, at Kennington Oval, London.
The updated India squad includes:
Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, N Jagadeesan (WK).
Pant’s injury is a blow to India’s campaign, but the team will look to maintain momentum with Jagadeesan stepping in. The Oval Test is set to decide the outcome of what has been a gripping series.
