Tata Power has officially completed the first phase of its strategic investment in Khorlochhu Hydro Power Limited (KHPL), marking a major step in its clean energy push. The company has invested ₹120 crore in the first tranche, acquiring 1.2 crore equity shares at ₹100 each. This gives Tata Power a 40% stake in KHPL, making it an associate company.
This investment follows earlier announcements made by Tata Power in August and October 2024. The total planned investment for the project stands at approximately ₹830 crore, to be made over the next five years.
KHPL, incorporated in June 2015, is developing a 600 MW hydropower project in Bhutan, with an overall project cost of around ₹6,900 crore. This initiative is expected to significantly boost Tata Power’s green energy portfolio.
KHPL operates in the power sector, with no turnover reported over the last three years and a net worth of about ₹608 crore as of December 2024. The acquisition doesn’t fall under the related party category, though KHPL will become a related party post-acquisition due to its associate status.
