As the strategic military operation codenamed Operation Sindoor unfolds, major disruptions have been reported in air traffic across northern India. Airports in several sensitive regions have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure amid heightened security alerts.
Operations at key northern airports—including Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar—have been suspended until further notice. The decision follows the rapidly evolving situation along India’s borders and internal security protocols.
In a travel advisory issued late on May 6, Air India confirmed the cancellation of all its flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot till 12 noon on May 7, citing “unforeseen disruption.” The airline noted that two international flights en route to Amritsar have been diverted to Delhi.
SpiceJet also updated its travel status early on May 7, alerting passengers that airports in Dharamshala (DHM), Leh (IXL), Jammu (IXJ), Srinagar (SXR), and Amritsar (ATQ) are closed. Passengers are advised to verify flight statuses at spicejet.com/#status before travel.

Authorities have emphasized that these closures are temporary and precautionary, and are closely linked to the high-security situation following India’s recent cross-border actions under Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK.
Passengers scheduled to travel from or to affected regions are urged to stay updated via airline websites and official government channels. Further updates are awaited from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
