Former JNU student Umar Khalid has been arrested by the Crime Branch for his alleged connection in the Delhi Riots that broke out in February, this year. He has been remanded to 3-day custody.
Umar was first arrested on 13th September by the Delhi Police, held for conspiracy in the riots under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Khalid allegedly gave provocative speeches at two different places and appealed to the citizens to come out on the streets and block the roads during the visit of US President Donald Trump to spread propaganda at the international level about how minorities in India are being persecuted.
On 24th September, a Delhi court sent him into judicial custody till October 22, booked under UAPA. Now he has been taken into custody by the Crime Branch for 3 days.
