India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami was seen getting his foot taped in the dugout after completing his third over against Australia in the Champions Trophy semi-final at the Dubai International Stadium. The right-arm fast bowler, who returned to the tournament after a long injury layoff, walked off the field following his spell of three overs, conceding 17 runs and taking one wicket.

Mixed start for Shami on comeback

Shami had an eventful outing in his return match. He missed a crucial catch of Travis Head on the very first ball of the innings, giving the Australian opener an early reprieve. However, he bounced back strongly, dismissing young opener Cooper Connolly for a duck in his second over of the spell. Cooper replaced opener Matt Short who missed out the semi-final match due to injury.

The 34-year-old, known for his ability to generate movement even on placid tracks, looked sharp in his initial overs. However, his early exit from the field raised concerns about his fitness, given his recent injury struggles.

Shami has been a key bowler for India especially in ICC tournaments. In this edition of CT 2025, Mohammed Shami kicked off with a fifer against Bangladesh however he could not take a wicket against Pakistan and New Zealand but created impact from his side.
