Afcons Infrastructure Limited has successfully completed Ghana’s first Tema-Mpakadan Standard Gauge Railway Line, a $447 million project commissioned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. This transformative 100-kilometer railway line is a key component of Ghana’s inaugural multimodal transport system, integrating rail, road, and inland water transport to enhance connectivity between Tema Port and Buipe Port via the Volta Lake.

The railway line features advanced infrastructure, including a 300-meter bridge over the Volta River—the longest railway bridge in Ghana—seven passenger stations, two rail head facilities, and multiple road and rail bridges. The project aims to decongest road traffic, streamline port operations at Tema, and provide an efficient alternative for freight and passenger transportation.

Afcons Managing Director, S. Paramasivan, expressed pride in executing Ghana’s largest railway project, highlighting the construction of the Volta River bridge as a testament to extreme engineering. President Akufo-Addo underscored the railway’s role in modernizing the nation’s transport network and driving economic growth.

Financed through India Exim Bank credit, this landmark project reinforces Afcons’ global reputation. Ranked among the top 120 international contractors by ENR, Afcons specializes in delivering technologically complex infrastructure projects worldwide.
