Ravi Kishan, who played a key role in Laapataa Ladies, expressed his joy over the movie being selected as India’s official film entry for Oscars 2025.
The movie has been selected from the pool of 29 movies, which included Malayalam National Award winner Aattam, Canner winner All We Imagine As Light, Bollywood superhits Animal and Kalki 2898 AD.
Actor-turned-politician reacting to the news said, “I am so happy. I am not able to believe this. This is my first film that has made an entry in the Oscars… I give the whole credit to Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan, and the writers and the cast of the film… We know that this film will be a hit, it will make an entry in the nationals. But we will enter the Oscars, I never thought that.”
The BJP MP said that the movie must be re-released in theatres and should be declared tax free for the audience as it carries important message.
Earlier, in a statement, the head of Film Federation of India, Jahnu Barua said that the movie, directed by Kiran Rao and backed by Aamir Khan Productions, was chosen for 197th Academy Awards for its “Indianness.”
