Pratibha Ranta was in the middle of a narration when she was flooded with messages and phone calls informing her of her movie Laapata Ladies being selected Academy Awards. She learned that the movie has been selected as the official entry into the Oscars, once she was out of the meeting.
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, the actress was beaming with joy as she could not believe the news to be true. “I was sitting for a reading, and my phone was buzzing with calls and messages continuously. I couldn’t check my phone during the meeting. It was only after the meeting that I checked my phone, and saw the big announcement.”
The announcement was made by Film Federation of India, on Monday, about the Kiran Rao directorial to be officially selected as Indian entrant to Oscars 2025. The movie was chosen from a pool of 29 films, which included, Malayalam National Award winner Aattam, Canner winner All We Imagine As Light, Bollywood superhit Animal, and Kalki 2898 AD.
Pratibha continued that the film’s team for hoping for it, and now to witness the dream turning into reality has ushered a celebratory mood for all associated with the film.
