Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) and Adani Power Limited (APL) have received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to supply 6,600 MW of hybrid solar and thermal power. This major contract involves Adani Green supplying 5,000 MW of solar power from its renewable energy park in Khavda, Gujarat, while Adani Power will provide 1,496 MW of thermal power from a new 1,600 MW Ultra-supercritical thermal power plant.
This deal marks the world’s largest solar power capacity award since 2020 and is part of MSEDCL’s tender to procure 1,600 MW of thermal and 5,000 MW of solar power. Adani Power will enter into a long-term Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with MSEDCL for the thermal capacity, while Adani Green will sign a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the solar capacity, both for 25 years.
The solar power is priced at a flat tariff of ₹2.70 per kWh, and the thermal power plant will operate on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model, sourcing coal under the SHAKTI policy.
Adani Green’s Executive Director, Sagar Adani, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in advancing India’s clean energy goals, while Adani Power’s Managing Director, Anil Sardana, highlighted the importance of stable grid power and base load supply in supporting Maharashtra’s growing energy needs.
This project is a crucial step in Adani’s long-term strategy to meet its target of achieving 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, and it aligns with India’s overall energy transition and sustainability goals.
